Broadband Satellite Internet Service is Now Available Everywhere You Are

Satellite internet service may be the broadband solution you are looking for if high speed internet access is not available in your area. With a satellite system installed, internet service is always on and ready to surf.

The initial installation and investment in the equipment is not cheap, but if the quality of your internet access is important to you and typical broadband services are not available in your area, satellite internet can be a viable solution. Currently, prices are dropping, and installation package options with rebates make it easier and more available than ever before. Satellite service providers can sell and install the equipment for you. A complete package consists of a two-way communications satellite dish, a modem, cables, and mounting hardware. You will need a clear view of the Southern sky that is unobstructed by power lines which can affect uploading, trees, and buildings. Your satellite system should be professionally installed for optimum satellite internet performance as even the smallest increments in pointing make a significant difference in the transfer rate between your computer, the dish, and the communications satellite.

While satellite internet is a little slower than cable and DSL at times, it is faster than dial-up. The typical installation for personal use provides download speeds of approximately 500 kbps. Upload speed is approximately 50 kbps which is still faster than dial-up. Satellite internet is somewhere in between DSL and cable on one end and dial-up on the other.

It is important to be familiar with a few limitations of satellite internet. Satellite internet experiences a slight latency time which is the time required to travel to the satellite and back to your computer. This affects the quality of online games and other time sensitive applications. If you want something faster than dial-up but other applications haven't reached your location as yet, consider satellite internet as the next best thing to DSL.
