SBC Names Randall Stephenson Chief Operating
Officer.
SBC Communications Inc.today named Randall L.
Stephenson chief operating officer, reporting to Ed Whitacre,
SBC's chairman and chief executive officer. Previously,
Stephenson served as senior executive vice president-chief
financial officer.
"Randall Stephenson is one of the industry's most
talented young executives and I look forward to his leadership
in this new position," said Whitacre.
Reporting to Stephenson, 44, will be John
Atterbury, group president-network operations, John Stankey,
senior executive vice president and chief information officer,
and Ray Wilkins, group president-marketing and sales.
Rick Lindner, 49, chief financial officer at
Cingular Wireless, of which SBC owns 60%, is named chief
financial officer for SBC.
"Rick Lindner has done an excellent job at
Cingular and he will be a great asset to SBC's senior management
team," Whitacre said.
