Hughes offers satellite broadband
connectivity: DiRECWAY Wi-Fi Access solution to hit Hot Spots in
India
Hughes Network Systems, Inc. (HNS), the global
provider of broadband satellite network solutions, today
announced its solutions to provide back-end broadband
connectivity via satellite for the fast expanding Wi-Fi market
in India.
DIRECWAY Wi-Fi Access, Hughes's Hot Spot solution
targets the enterprise market, including hotels, restaurants,
coffee shops, gas stations and convenience stores.
The demand for Wi-Fi applications in India has
been on the rise with the cost of laptops and handheld devices
slashed to a considerable extent recently.
A research report by Gartner in 2003 on the
market in the APAC region for Wi-Fi Hot
Spots reports India as the country that generates
the highest average income from each hot spot. Most of these
access points are located in business hotels, rather than in
cafes and restaurants.
Hughes states that DiRECWAY Wi-Fi Access is a
compelling option for companies from the oil, retail and
manufacturing industries to link their geographically dispersed
offices in a reliable and cost effective manner.
The continent-wide reach of DiRECWAY Wi-Fi Access
means that enterprise or retailers can offer this Hot Spot
service to their employees at all the company locations. Hughes
Network Systems (HNS) will be providing a solution including
equipment, installation, and back-end support services like
customer billing and network management.
DiRECWAY Wi-Fi Access is available now as an
upgrade for existing enterprise customers of Hughes. DiRECWAY
broadband satellite service will be offered through all Hughes
sales channels, including its direct sales team and value-added
resellers. HNS is also talking to potential partners like ISPs
and System Integrators to jointly market these services.
