FairPoint Communications and KeyOn Communications
Form Innovative Partnership for Broadband Wireless Services in
Rural Markets.
FairPoint Broadband, a subsidiary of FairPoint
Communications, Inc. and KeyOn Communications, today announced a
joint agreement that will bring high-speed wireless Internet
access services to Pocatello, Idaho. Based on the growing demand
for high-speed Internet access and voice-over-Internet protocol
(VoIP) services, they have teamed up to offer a suite of
broadband services to residential and business consumers.
Services will be marketed as FairPoint Broadband and delivered
using KeyOn's patent-pending technology and wireless
infrastructure design.
Under the agreement, the companies will offer
broadband services in the greater Pocatello area. Leveraging a
history of providing telecommunications in more than 150
markets, FairPoint chose KeyOn as a partner in entering
Pocatello to offer a competitive high-speed Internet service
with VoIP services, expected to come online later in the year.
The partnership will make use of KeyOn's broadband solution,
which enables secure, cost-effective deployment of high-speed
Internet access services to both residential and business
markets. KeyOn's network will cover about 95 percent of all
homes and business in Pocatello and Chubbuck.
"I am pleased to be a part of the team pioneering
the deployment of cost-effective broadband solutions in growth
markets," said Rory Erchul, general manager for the Pocatello
market of KeyOn. "Our services, broadband and VoIP, are in great
demand by customers."
KeyOn's proprietary solution integrates with
standards-based wireless equipment to provide high-speed
Internet access in a wide-area network, while adding security,
remote and continuous network management and a built-in
firewall. KeyOn's technology creates cost advantages and
technology enhancements that allow FairPoint to offer service in
wide coverage areas at a fraction of the cost of cable or DSL
services.
"We are excited about our partnership to bring
broadband to underserved markets with our cutting-edge
technology, methodology and management oversight," said Jonathan
Snyder, founder and chief executive officer of KeyOn
Communications.
