WHO'S HIRING?: Internet service provider Visi
aims to be a magnate magnet.
Visi.com, the Minneapolis-based Internet service
provider, wants to hire a "business development magnate."
The ideal candidate will have passion, a good gut
instinct and a high level of technical knowledge. Academic
degrees are irrelevant.
"We sell a technical service and, as such, all of
our staff is required to understand the technology that we
deliver," said Bil MacLeslie, Visi's general manager. "If you're
a geek, we want to talk to you. If you're not, we might suggest
some heavy reading."
Being able to find growth opportunities that are
not obvious is a key trait.
The current ISP market is highly competitive,
MacLeslie said, adding that Visi needs new blood to expand its
market share by differentiating itself.
The business development magnate will develop
relationships with new and existing customers. MacLeslie wants
someone who can evaluate customer needs and make sure the
customer doesn't overbuy. The best person for the job is someone
people can trust. Most likely, the person will have a chance to
grow into a higher-level position, such as "business development
czar," he said.
Salary is commensurate with experience.
"People may want more if working for a slave
driver and want less when working with me," he said.
Any unusual perks? Free acupuncture, massages and
yoga classes.
