BT to speed up broadband ISP switching.
BT Wholesale is planning an overhaul of ADSL
migration procedures, the means by which broadband users can
switch ISP.
ADSL Guide reports that the new system will be
based on a Migration Authorisation Code (MAC) issued by the
existing ISP, permitting the connection to be switched to the
new ISP. It should reduce the time for migrations from around 10
days to just a few minutes.
Currently the process occurs in reverse, with the
new ISP making a request to the existing one via BT Wholesale.
Not only does this take time, but it is not unknown for
migration requests to disappear.
BT is also looking at ways of enabling migration
between IP Stream products - which the majority of ISPs resell -
to Datastream, preferred by the likes of Tiscali and Bulldog.
